💻 Antares Release

In honor of looping back around to an "A" term for our next release - sing along if you know the words!

Let's start at the very first letter
A very good place to start
For the name, you begin with letter A
And the name for this one is Antares

Antares

The next release just happens to be

Antares includes these features so fa...

Posts, are now on the home page!
See, you'll now see all the fun!
When, the time a post appears
Home, the page where they'll be shown!
Realm, also a place for posts!
There, your posts can still be seen!
Ti, drink this while reading posts!
That will bring us back to posts, posts, posts!

Please send us your feedback on this new change - no feedback on songwriting needed, we already know it is world-class.

💻 Zenith Release

At last, Moonbeam has reached its Zenith... release.

Oddly enough, in addition to its astronomical uses, this word that literally means the top, the crest, the summit... is last alphabetically in our list of releases.

So while you sort that out, let us give you a peak at the changes that come with this release:

  • Super-secret money stuff: If you've been reading our Moonbeam realm updates and our e-mails, you'll know that creator payouts are on the way! This release has some code that will allow us to make this a reality - but we can't tell you about it yet. But get ready - the bean counters are warming up as we speak!

  • Super-secret UI stuff: If you are already a Moonbeam user, then you won't see this - because we've made some improvements to the user registration messaging, in case you are getting stuck there. For those that will soon register - we'll keep it our little secret.

  • Improved haiku input: [clears throat]

The chat UI you'll find
Can now expand multi-lines
Not just for Haikus!

As always, keep that feedback coming!

💻 Ymir Release

When we pick release names here at Moonbeam, we grab a list of potential names from astronomy (if you haven't figured that out yet) and pick the one that sounds the coolest. For this release, we picked a very neat-sounding moon from Saturn. After we picked that name, we did a little research online - the name Ymir actually comes from a figure in Norse mythology that is famous for giving birth from the armpits. And that's where we stopped reading and said, "yep, what a cool name."

New Features & Improvements

  • New and Improved Performance Features: Shower thought: can something be new and improved? If it's improved, then on paper it isn't new, it already existed. It's a tough philosophical discussion, but we didn't let that stop us from making some performance enhancements to the profile page, posts, and user authentication.

  • Your Name Should Be In Lights...: ...is what we told ourselves when we decided to add a banner to let everyone know that the Moonbeam realm is your destination for updates, support, and interacting with Moonbeam staff and users! Look ma, we're famous now!

Please send us your feedpit... we mean, feedback, about these changes!

💻 X-Ray Release

We are happy to announce the X-Ray release for Moonbeam!

Here at Moonbeam, we pride ourselves with being transparent. We understand that we risk saying something that could be construed as a negative, but we would rather radiate truth than have you scan for misleading information.

And if you are wondering - what are we even talking about? Well, I guess you didn't see-through what we said.

New Features & Improvements

  • Login stability improvements: we've noted from feedback that some users are intermittently or frequently being redirected to the login screen. It would be easy to dismiss this feedback as lumberjacks aren't our primary target audience, but someone on our team pointed out that getting logged out is not some sort of problem specific to those fine forest workers. To help everyone (including lumberjacks!), we've introduced some changes that should reduce or eliminate this issue. Please let us know if you continue to have issues with this after this release!

  • Home page optimizations: Is... the... home... page... loading... slowly... for... you? We've greased the internal gears of Moonbeam so that you should see a much quicker loading home page. Let us know if you can tell a difference!

Enjoy the new release! And please book your follow-up appointment with radiology at the front desk as you leave.

📱 Mobile 1.0.3 Release

Did you know the universe is expanding? Just like our app, which keeps getting better with every update. While we're not quite at interstellar travel yet, we've made a few changes that'll make your app experience feel like a small step for you, but a giant leap for functionality.

New Features & Improvements

  • Push Notifications: Like a cosmic flare, you'll know immediately when something important happens. No telescope required.

  • In-App Notifications: The updates are coming from inside the app! Stay in the loop without having to spacewalk to another platform.

  • Profile Cards on Username Tap: Tap someone's name, and voila! You'll see their profile card and list of realms—no probes needed.

  • @Mentions: Want someone's attention? Drop an @. It's like nudging them gently in zero gravity, but less awkward.

  • Typing Indicator: Wondering if someone's about to send a message from the void? The typing indicator lets you see when someone's crafting their reply, so you'll know they're still out there.

  • Email Sign-In: Your email is now your golden ticket to the app. It's basically the passport of the digital galaxy.

  • Settings Page Upgrade: We've added a logout button and notification settings. Because every spaceship (or app) needs a control panel.

  • Drawer Declutter: The logout button has packed its bags and moved to the settings page. The drawer is lighter, neater, and ready for action.

🌟 Fun Fact: The moon doesn't have an atmosphere, so sound doesn't travel there. Luckily, your notifications will still come through loud and clear.

Got feedback, ideas, or cosmic questions? Beam them our way! 🚀

(P.S. If you aren't getting notifications after updating and enabling them on your settings page, please uninstall and reinstall the app. Sorry for the inconvenience!)

💻 Wormhole Release

Hey everyone! It's time for the Wormhole release of Moonbeam! Let's explain how this works - we are going to make some changes that we will list out in this message, but the neat part is...

New Features & Improvements

  • Adding date separators in chat: We heard your feedback - it was difficult (especially in the steam chat) to sort out generally when chat messages were sent. To help with this, we've added date separators for all chat rooms and stream chats. Now that we've developed this amazing technology, the possibilities are endless - we could add separators for hours, minutes, seconds, milliseconds, even MICROSECONDS!?! - ok, maybe we're taking this too far. We'll stop at milliseconds.

  • Remember and return to your last chat room: It's sometimes hard to remember things - but we made sure not to forget this great suggestion by one of our users: we should remember which chat room you last visited and return to it when you return to the realm. So we implemented it! We promise not to forget about this feature!

  • Fixed lag in updating team residual splits: There was an issue where it took a few seconds to update the residual splits for your team. If you put on your evil hat for a moment - wouldn't that be diabolical if it were the opposite situation? Let's say I want to show someone I updated the splits, but I secretly didn't want to change them. So we immediately show the change, but after a few seconds - we reset the splits back. That would have been so very clever! Unfortunately, we aren't that clever. It was just a bug. And it's fixed.

  • Prevent app from crashing when viewing profiles while not signed in: This is a very specific issue, but we figured when you try to "crash the party" by showing up to a profile page without signing in that you shouldn't "crash the app" as well. So this is fixed.

  • Remember and return to your last chat room: It's sometimes hard to remember things - but we made sure not to forget this great suggestion by one of our users: we should remember which chat room you last visited and return to it when you return to the realm. So we implemented it! We promise not to forget about this feature!

  • The most difficult, important fix we've ever made: Here on the Moonbeam engineering team, we don't back away from a challenge. Whenever we see a difficult problem, we don't run away from it. We embrace the complexities and jump head-first into it, using our combined years of software training and skills to understand the source of the problem inside-and-out, evaluate all of the possible ways to solve the issue, and work hard to implement quality code that will set an example in the software engineering space. Which is why, with a sense of pride, we are happy to announce the most difficult, important fix we've ever made: we removed that hanging comma that was always added to the member count at the top of chat rooms. Great job, everyone.

... how we made it to the other side! We hope you enjoy the changes and as always, send us your feedback.

💻 Vulcan Release

Captain's Log: Earthdate, 2025.01.17. We seem to have made more changes to Moonbeam. After consulting with our science officer, it appears that these changes have improved the odds of Moonbeam revolutionizing the streaming community by 0.0001%. Another member of the crew seriously doubts the accuracy of those odds and would love to investigate them, but dammit, they're just a doctor.

Hostiles are detected, so we've set the release on our phasers to Vulcan:

New Features & Improvements

  • Realm Invitation Process Improvements: Good news - it turns out the hostiles were not actually hostile, they were just upset that they didn't get their invitation to Moonbeam. In response, we've added instructions and made it easier for Realm owners to find and get invitation links.

  • Fix to Stream Viewer Count: We almost failed to detect the "not-so-hostile" hostiles as the viewer count on our streams wasn't being updated accurately. This should be fixed, preparing us for any friendly (or not-so-friendly) presence in the future.

If any of these changes appear illogical, please let us know. Until next time, stream long and prosper…

💻 Umbra Release

We are proud to introduce the release of Umbra. While it may surprise you to see an American tech company go into the field of soccer apparel… sorry, football apparel, let us assure you that we have spared no expenses with these uniforms… sorry, kits. Trust us, we really know this sport!

Wait… Umbra is the dark-center part of a shadow that occurs during an eclipse? But what about the soccer apparel? Oh, that's Umbro. Whew, glad that facade is over - we didn't know anything about sportswear.

New Features & Improvements

So yes, we are proud to introduce the release of Umbra, which includes:

  • Post Tags: Realm make post. Member read post. Member can't find post. Moonbeam add post tags. Post tags categorize posts. It's so easy, even a - new user can do it!

  • Character Limit Indicator For Chat Messages: We heard your feedback loud and clear! We've added an indicator to our chat UI so that you can see the maximum length of chat messages to make sure your messages will fit. Now you won't have to worry about the cutting off of mess

Did we score the winning goal or an own goal with these changes? Let us know!

💻 Tachyon Release

Who's up for a game of "two truths and a lie"?

Tachyon (pronounced like "tac-kee-on") is:

  • a hypothetical particle
  • the way an ugly Christmas sweater looks on someone
  • the latest release for Moonbeam

Here's a hint - the last one isn't the lie! Because the Tachyon release brings us a couple of helpful improvements!

New Features & Improvements

  • Access Profile Cards from Username in Chat: Want to know more about someone who made an awesome chat comment? Now you can just click on their name in the chat to bring up their profile card! It's just our way of spinning the flywheel that is "social networking."
  • Fix for Long Press on Mobile Chat Views: Performing a long press on mobile shouldn't require the precision of a watchmaker to achieve. So we've fixed the chat view on mobile - now reactions don't show up without an intentional long press!

As always, send us your feedback on the new changes!

  • Tipping is in Tip-Top Shape: The tip button on mobile is feeling a lot more cooperative. Thanks for your patience!
  • Realm Image on Hero Streams: Streaming on the homepage's hero stream? The realm's profile image now shows up next to your stream.
  • Renaming Your Realm: Renaming your realm hit a few snags for a few people—those edge cases are all cleared up now.

Check it out and let us know what you think! 🚀

📱 Mobile 1.0.2 Release

Small update to address a few bugs and improve the overall experience.

Improvements

  • Separated the "likes text" at the bottom of a post into two lines. This will create a cleaner, more consistent look with the usernames on the first line (truncated if needed) and the number of likes on the second line.
  • Changed the behavior of the sort dropdown to dismiss when tapping anywhere outside of it
  • Condensed the timestamp date

Bug Fixes

  • Made the like button more consistent. Unliking and then liking quickly should maintain the proper state.
  • Fixed the visibility of the Sentiment tag
  • Fixed messages not sending on the stream view
